2010 SUMMARY

Live September 2010

2010 in summary was pretty eventful. These are my highlights and achievements.

BBBlood Releases - 2010

So not really as prolific as years previously but I'd recommend checking out all of these where you can. I still have copies of Rust and Lazar House but the split with Duncan is out of press for now, more copies are expected in the new year. Load more releases planned for next year, I just don't want to rush any of them out. Announcement of a new release is to follow.

Compilation Appearances

Last year I submitted a tracks for the following compilations
Currently recording at the moment has been mostly focused on the upcoming LP on NO LITE (pending name change) early 2011, it's almost complete.

BBBlood Live - 2010

This year I've really enjoyed playing a lot and have been getting more into my live set up after supporting Toshiji Mikawa / NAG etc.. last year. I guess the only two low points of the shows I played was the show with Team Brick and Skat Injector due to technical problems and overall dramatics from a venue turning on a limiter mid-way through the set cutting my volume in half and the Noise x3 UKNC I felt was just a really strange event.

The real highlights was playing NoiseFest2 in Kortrijk (a great place I really want to visit again), meeting all the great Belgians and drinking all their finest beer / getting toasted with Phil, Vicky Kapoor and the locals, Incubate 2010 for the incredible experience and finally playing on the same line ups as musicians such as Cheapmachines, Sewer Election, Oscillating Innards, Alfarmania and Dieter Muh.

Thanks to everyone who fixed up these shows. I'm open to offers for future gigs as nothing is currently planned till mid 2011.

Records 2010

There's been countless great noise and related records released this year, these stood out for me. This list probably reads a lot like others lists but here goes...
  • The Rita - Predators 7" (Second Layer Records)
  • Custodian - Toil and Waste (Syzmic Records)
  • Darksmith - Total Vacuum (Hanson)
  • Keranen - Bats In The Attic (Pica Disk)
  • T.E.F. - Consequences in Conversation (DaDa Drumming)
  • Jason Crumer -Let There Be Crumer / Self Pity Fuck (No Rent Records)
  • Black Air - Paris (Urashima)
  • Sewer Election - Vidöppna Sår (PAN)
  • Kazuma Kubota - A Sense of Loss + 1 (Pitchphase)
  • Pedestrian Deposit - East Fork/North Fork (Monorail Trespassing)
  • The Haters / Hal Hutchinson c90 (And possibly Hal Hutchinson 'A Taste of Iron' too on Freak Animal) (Der Bunker)
  • Pain Jerk - The Worst Form Of Musick (AMP)
  • Sewer Election - Bristning (Release The Bats Records)
  • Lasse Marhaug - The Quiet North (Second Layer Records)
  • Francisco Meirino & Dave Phillips - We Are None Of Us (Misanthropic Agenda)
  • Macronympha / Kakerlak split (DaDa Drumming)
  • Dem Hunger - Caveman Smack (Leaving Records)
  • Graham Lambkin & Jason Lescalleet - Air Supply (Erstwhile Records)

Also mention goes to As Loud As Possible magazine. I'm still only half way through reading it but it's almost like when you're a kid and receive a copy of the Beano annual. Great read, inspirational and very insightful.

Live 2010

Favourite Shows of 2010

  • LAFMS - The Lowest Form of Music Weekend (London, Beconsfield) - Highlights for me - Hijokiadan, Incapacitants, John Duncan, Spoils & Relics w/ Mark Durgan, Raionbashi, Dinosuars With Horns. A unforgettable weekend, so many great acts, great people, records to buy.

  • The Rita (London, The Grosvenor), with excellent sets from Filthy Turd, Voltiguers and Vomir this was a great night. Sam Mckinlay's set was uncompromising walls of static suffocation and decay really knocked me for six and I felt pretty high afterwards.

  • Oscillating Innards (London, The Others) For a long time I've wanted to see OxIx play after hearing reviews from friends who have been fortunate enough to see Gordon play. After missing out last time I finally got to see OxIx play and even support that night. A real jaw dropping performance and intense set.

  • Skat Injector (London, The Windmill) The Transient Constellations all day event was fun from what I can remember, but out of all the sets I really enjoyed Skat Injector's set that night. One one hand it was abrasive grind core with incredible screamed vocals from Zara Skumshot and on the other hand it very tongue and cheek and the crowd were extremely up for going crazy.

  • NoiseFest 2 (Kortrijk, Belgium) I mentioned this earlier in this blog post but I really enjoyed all the sets I caught that day - no complaints + good beer.
2010 was pretty good, here's to 2011 cheers.

Advance TICKETS

OSCILLATING INNARDS

Noise project of Portland-based Gordon Ashworth - the earlier incarnation of his work before he began his Concern explorations. This is likely to be one last outings of the OI moniker. Brutal, exultant, exploratory noise music performed with guile. Exciting but alienating.

BBBLOOD
London’s shining noise light; Colour Ride is always delighted when BBBlood plays.

DUNCAN HARRISON
Finally, Duncan Harrison plays a Colour Ride show. Brighton-based Duncan is a member of exemplary psych drone outfit Plurals. His solo shows are altogether more rabid; his live performances and numerous self-released tapes have established him as a key noise figure.

Hal Mcgee has been making noise and producing interesting projects since the early 80s, one of his latest projects is the International Email Audio Art Project (IEAAP, for short). This compiles tracks emailed in from artists all over the world no more than 1 minute long in length.

"The Homemade Music Movement has grown from the roots of the Mail Art Movement, and in order to pay due respect and acknowledge these origins, I propose an international EMAIL audio art project in which contributors will send to me a one-minute miniature audio work in mp3 format (plus visual works if desired) attached to an email. These works will be published together in volumes online."

EURO TRIP SEPTEMBER 2010

So, finally recovered from over 2 weeks of excess and a week away in the Netherlands / Belgium.

Both shows were a great success. It was great to meet, chat and drink with you all. A big thanks to Levi in Tilburg and Fré in Kortrijk for their hospitality. We had a great time, photos coming soon if you are interested. I hope to come over again some time in the future.

A short video extract from the NoiseFest2 set is on YouTube (See Previous Post)

I think we mostly enjoyed Kortrijk as it was a slower pace than Incubate + Belgium beer wins over any other beer hands down. Bockor Omer was my beer of choice at the festival.

I really enjoyed the sets by Sewer Election, Naked On The Vague, Alfarmania, Cheapmachines, Remork and to be honest every set I watched was great.

Anyway this post is just to document the fact we're still alive!

News on upcoming shows / releases to be posted shortly.

BBBLOOD - 25 SEPTEMBER 2010 - DOE NE KEER MOEITE NOISEFEST II (DE KREUN, KORTRIJK) - VIDEO CLIP

INCUBATE BLOG - Q&A

As part of Incubate 2010 they have asked a set of questions to all artists playing.

Here is my Q&A

[inQ&A] BBBlood

Only two more months until Incubate 2010. For the past few months we’ve been announcing new artists every week. But with 200 + artists coming up in September we can imagine you losing your hold. That’s why we compiled the Incubate 2010 Spotify playlist (http://incu.at/spotify). Subscribing to this playlist will get you acquainted with most of the Incubate 2010 bands.

Apart from their music, part of the getting-to-know-them-better-proces will also be us asking some of the artists a few questions in the upcoming months. The thirty-sixth edition in a series:

BBBlood

1.Can you please introduce yourself?
I’ve been making music under the BBBlood name since 2002 but before then I used to play in a load of trashy punk and grindcore bands. Once they all broke up I thought I’d work on my own noise based material as I was just getting into harsh noise and have always been involved in the D.I.Y punk ethics that the noise community also adopts. At first my sound was pretty cheap and very crude distorted computer based noise. But I eventually threw all that in the bin and started making straight up concentrated harsh noise. Since then I’ve not looked back and I’m trying to progress the sound further.

2.Where are you at the moment?
Currently I am enjoying the sun in London as we never seem to get a real summer in England that lasts longer than a week. I’m hoping that it like this at least until Incubate 2010 has finished, as I’m planning a holiday around the same time.

3.Have you played in the Netherlands before and if so, what’s your view on or experience with the scene you’re operating in in The Netherlands?
Sadly no, I’ve never played in the Netherlands. Last time I was over in Holland I was 18 years old with a few friends on a debauched trip to Amsterdam where all we did was smoke and drink beer. Last year I did a split cassette on Turgid Animal records with the Apophallation great harsh noise from NL. I really enjoy playing in mainland Europe as the crowds are always a lot more up for it. I’m really looking forward to coming over.

4.What can we expect of your gig at the Incubate Festival?

Expect no mercy.
No seriously, expect an attempt to produce some highly charged non-melodic metallic junk noise within 15 minutes.

5.What are your plans for the (near) future?
In the near future I’m planning to release more records, play more shows in main land Europe and keep on pushing my sound further.

THE LOWEST FORM OF MUSIC

Re-post, this is going to be the event of the year by miles!!!

One day before my Birthday roll on October!

Second Layer, Harbinger Sound and No-Fi presents...

THE LOWEST FORM OF MUSIC:
The Los Angeles Free Music Society in London

The Lowest Form Of Music is the first ever event in the UK dedicated to the work and influence of the legendary Los Angeles Free Music Society (LAFMS). This weekend of performance, film screenings and discussion will explore the legacy of one of the avantgarde’s great unsung movements.

The missing link between the far-out West Coast freakscene that spawned Zappa and Beefheart and the worldwide explosion of DIY experimental culture, LAFMS is a must-check for all those with an interest in underground alternative culture. Using humour, collage and buckets full of the bizarre, this collective kicked the early 70s out of its post-Manson nightmare and into the avant-gutter of a pre-punk endzone.

The influence LAFMS has had on the explosion of international DIY culture is immeasurable. Explicitly acknowledged as a motivation for the emergence of the Japanese noise scene in the 1980s, as well as being cited specifically by the likes of Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and John Olson (Wolf Eyes), the collective that emerged in LA in 1973 resulted in countless adventurous music lovers tasting the delights of a new kind of creative freedom and getting out there and doing it for themselves.

The Lowest Form of Music will take place over an extended weekend at Beaconsfield in South London, a venue “distinguished by its history of providing a forum for extraordinary events and exhibitions”. The programme will feature a host of LAFMS artists and groups
presenting performances, talks, films screenings and workshops.

"The LAFMS recordings (are) experimental rock history at its most historical and hysterical - a completely bizarro and further-out counterpart to the LA punk scene." - Thurston Moore, Sonic Youth

"LAFMS people have hybridized avant-garde, experimental, improvisational, punk, pop and even humorous stuffs. For Japanese fans, LAFMS has become a legend." - Takuya Sakaguchi, Osaka

"LAFMS were the New Weird America when nobody was payin’ attention 25-30 years ago." - Roland Woodbe, Siltblog

"The monster is back in its original nature! Human synthesizers!! Hijokaidan in its early days was heavily under (Airway’s) influence. Definitely a must for everyone in this era!" - Toshiji Mikawa, Incapacitants/Hijokaidan

"The guys in the LAFMS were inquistive smartie nerds determined to forge their own SONIC WORLD. What a shipwreck and coral reef they created!" - Gary Panter

BBBLOOD / AL QAEDA SPLIT REVIEW ON FOXY DIGITALIS

A great review on Foxy Digitalis of the recent BBBlood / Al Qaeda split 7"

Read it here on Foxy Digitalis...

Bbblood/Al Qaeda "split" 7''

Splits are sometimes a risk. Sometimes you only like one artist on the split. Sometimes the artist that you actually like tried something new that you ended up not digging the new direction. But then, splits can also be awesome and amazing, like this 7” from Bbblood and Al Qaeda for example. Both artists are truly great. And they both play some of their most laudable work.

If you’ve read my 2009 Year End fav’s list then you know that I hold Al Qaeda in very high regard. I still think they’re a crew to watch out for. Their name will be huge, and not just because their name is associated with a terrorist organization (but not related to it). They just need to get to the point where they can release a full length LP or something. Anyway, their side boasts two inspiring untitled tracks. This trio; Eric, Scott, and Erin, from the Bay area, give us two of their blissful best. These are straight up late night dream tracks. REM drones that’ll make your eyes sink into your skull, your respiration lag, and your mind wander. The most calm and collected I’ve heard AQ.

Bbblood is also an amazing talent. His side is just one longer track, “Mental Funeral.” That’s pretty much self-explanatory. This noise artist out of London, Paul Watson, reminds us why noise is the new punk. This is sheer music decay. It’s kind of cool how this track develops, building up from a slowburner to a raucous display. Bbblood drains its electronic veins gradually and then lavishly floods your speakers with bloody good psychotics. A true “Mental Funeral” indeed.

Top all this off with some cool full color collage art by Stan Reed (Blue Sabbath Black Cheer) and you have a pretty short but fun ride on the drone-go-round. This is Trans-Dimensional Sushi’s first-ever vinyl release, and I can assure them that they picked a great way to kick off the new format’s lineup. 9/10 -- Dave Miller (16 June, 2010)

Thanks to Dave Miller for the review.

This record is also available from RRRecords and Second Layer

Copies still available to buy direct from Trans-Dimensional Sushi

BBBLOOD / AL QAEDA SPLIT REVIEW

I still have copies available, please contact

This review is taken from TRUST magazine in Germany.

BBBLOOD / AL QAEDA - split 7“
Part ominous, part chilling - this withering slice of out there atmospherics orbits darkly detached drone terrains located at the outer reaches of the early career sonic spectrum of Roy Montgomery.Runde Sache. (Michael)

BBBlood Live @ Curry Club 2005 by BBBlood

Recently rediscovered live recording from 2005 (I think, maybe it was 2006) it was one of my early live perfomances. Recorded at 'Curry Club' what was pretty shambolically organised night inside Corsica Studios (Elephant & Castle).

We were supposed to play in one of the side rooms but had to play live in the main area where there already was a Ska / Reggae night going. None of the regular club punters were really sure what to make of this set.

It's a pretty interesting yet crude mix of heavy vocal, broken synthesizer and distortion recorded on a tape recorder under my set up. I have a vague recolection of the night and if you listen closely you can hear people shouting "turn it up".

Short set, strange night.

Small updates...

I've sold out of all my tapes, still have a couple of the Reaching. split CDr and plenty of Al Qaeda split 7" and even a couple re-discovered copies of the Rank Sinatra split 7".

Email me (baronbumblood at hotmail dot com) for more information on ordering.

Some recordings in the pipeline, I've been pretty busy recording, moving and trying out some new ideas. The new set-up is all done and I'm really happy with recent recordings.

One of the upcoming highlights is a 2x C20 collaboration with Legless. Danny is a good friend and was living in the UK two years ago, we played a show together and had a few beers. He once played guitar in The New Flesh, has done collaborations with Kakerlak and is Half of Pastures. He has a upcoming split tape with Goat and also collaborating with Kakerlak on an upcoming LP. Our recordings are in progress so not too much to report at the moment.

Also due is a currently untitled CDr on We're gonna get fucking drunk tonight boys. I'm expecting to see this come out in the next couple of months. I've submitted the master CD but still need to provide art work. I just need to scan it in then I can send it off.

And finally I'm working on a new tape to release on Trans-Dimensional Sushi. Once I've managed to pin down Matt, I'll be potentially uploading out of print releases and updating the TDS blog. Although there are several blogs out there that have already have uploading some of my discography. Download some selections of the BBBlood back-catalogue here...

Otherwise there is a couple of other split tapes, collaborations and compilations tracks I am working on but I'll post here when things are more concrete.

Tapes, Records and some small changes...

1 copy of the Apophallation / BBBlood c30 left, 3 of the C30 on Beartown Records, 2 copies of the White Mountains c30 and down to my last couple of Molecular Beam Epitaxy tapes (For now).

All sold out!

I still have copies of the Al Qaeda split 7" and 2 more copies of the Reaching. split CDr

So if you're interested in any please contact me.

If you want any deals on more than one tape email and we can work it out. I'm hoping to clear out to make space for future Trans-Dimensional Sushi releases.

Expecting to have a new CDr and Tape out in the following months, and then some more in time for the Summer but things are moving very slowly.

No live shows planned at the moment.

Also I changed the blog from black to white. I'm planning to revamp the blog when I've got some time. I have restarted to use twitter sporadically so 'follow me' there @BBBlood

The Discogs selling widget seems pretty cool. This is a list of all the items I have available, some are non BBBlood related. If you want any of these items contact me.
